Cafeteria-Style Mac and Cheese Recipe
1/2 lb. elbow macaroni
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup of bread crumbs, fresh
1 1/2 cups of milk
1/4 tsp. of salt
3 1/2 cups Sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
1 1/2 tsp. mustard, powdered
A few dashes of hot pepper sauce
1/2 tsp. paprika
Oven should be preheated to around 350′ F. Make sure to grease well a deep 2-qt. baking dish and set aside.
Cook macaroni inside a pot that has salty boiling water until it is al dente for 8 mins. Drain the pasta well and set it aside.
Inside a saucepan, milk should come to a gentle simmer on medium heat. Take it away from heat then add in mustard, hot sauce, Worcestershire and salt then also set it aside.
Put macaroni in another bowl and add in egg then 1 1/2 tbsps. of butter then mix them well. Next, add in three cups grated Cheddar.
Inside the well greased dish, spread macaroni out evenly. Pour on milk that has been seasoned then sprinkle half a cup of grated Cheddar.
In another skillet, add & melt 2 tbsps. butter on medium heat then add in crumbs of bread. Layer out crumbs on the top of cooked macaroni then sprinkle paprika to finish.
Bake inside the oven for about 30 mins. or just until macaroni bubbles and colors lightly. Then transfer it to your broiler & continue cooking it and make sure that dish is 6 inches away from heat.
Wait for crumbs to turn golden after a minute or two inside broiler.
Makes 8 servings.
